Former Citizen Property Insurance General Counsel Joins GrayRobinson

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- December 17, 2009 -- Perry Cone, former general counsel of Citizen Property Insurance Corp. and Travelers of Florida, has joined the Tallahassee office of GrayRobinson, P.A. His addition to the firm signals the launching of an insurance operations and regulatory practice and the continued expansion of its government law practice group. Perry's practice will focus on insurance, government law, strategic litigation and corporate finance.

Cone was the first inside general counsel of Citizens Property Insurance Corp., a Florida state government entity and the nation's third largest property insurer. Earlier in his career, Cone served as general counsel and senior vice president at Travelers of Florida, a subsidiary of Citigroup and St. Paul Travelers.

Nationally known for his achievements in Florida insurance legislative reforms, Cone has held key leadership positions with the Florida Insurance Council, the Florida Bankers Association, and The University of Tampa.

He holds an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer-review rating awarded.

Among his accomplishments at Citizens, Cone built the corporate law department from the ground up, guided the successful restructuring of the litigation and disputed claims units and their process improvement, oversaw a combined staff of 80 legal and claims personnel, and participated in $12 billion of public and private debt financing.

Cone earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law and served as Articles Editor on the University of Miami Law Review. Prior to his in-house work, Cone was in private practice with a large national law firm and was also was a partner at a boutique firm with heavy emphasis in complex litigation and the financial services industry.
